- The Firearms, Ammunition, Explosives, Fireworks, and Imitation Firearms Act B.E. 2490 (1947) (as amended):
- Prohibition Principle: Section 7 prohibits anyone from manufacturing, purchasing, possessing, using, ordering, or importing firearms or ammunition unless a license is obtained from the local registrar.
- Import/Export: Stipulates that ordering or importing firearms, ammunition, or any part thereof requires a written Import/Order License from the Department of Provincial Administration (DOPA), Ministry of Interior, through the local registrar.
- Imitation Firearms: Even “Imitation Firearms” (objects whose form and appearance might cause confusion with real firearms) are controlled; ordering, importing, or trading them requires a license (Section 52).
- Customs Law: Mandates that when these goods are imported or exported, a written license from the relevant agency must be presented to customs officials during the clearance process.

- DOPA License: An import/order license from the Department of Provincial Administration must be secured before the actual import/export.
- Customs Control: Upon arrival or before export, the Customs Department closely controls and must store these goods securely, under customs custody, until permission for release (in case of import) or complete export is granted.
- Handover: For imports, the licensee must present the firearm, ammunition, along with a handover document from the Customs Department, to the local registrar where the application was submitted within the specified timeframe.
